THE statisticians had to search for their calculators before Renfrew Cricket Club could celebrate their latest league victory.
Captain Sajid Majeed’s side travelled to East Barnton Avenue to take on Corstorphine in the SNCL Second Division.
But it took the Duckworth-Lewis Method, which calculates the net run rate of each side, to declare the overall winner.
And it was Renfrew who were victorious – but only just.
Renfrew were put into bat and the KGV side set a target of 152 runs for the loss of four wickets.
Helping the ’Frew on their way was Fida Hussain, who netted 72 runs.
But the rain forced a halt to play three times and the overs were reduced from firstly 44, then 39, then 35 before they had to settle for 32.
Corstorphine were then put into bat but they could only manage 152 for six following their 32 overs.
Under the Duckworth-Lewis Method, Renfrew took the points after winning by three runs.
Hussian managed to help himself to four Corstorphine wickets too.
Happy skipper Majeed said: “It’s a relief to win this game because, in our last three or four outings, we had lost quite narrowly and it was beginning to get frustrating. So it’s good to put one to bed and come out on top. We fielded pretty well but our spin bowlers were exceptional and they really won the game for us.”
Tomorrow, Renfrew are at home to Prestwick in the West League Cup.
The game at KGV will start at 6.15pm.
Majeed said: “We played Prestwick in the Rowan Cup and we beat them and we also managed to beat them at home in the league.”
