No final place for Braehead curlers

THERE was award disappointment for the Braehead Curling Club when members headed to Aberdeen to contest the Scottish Junior Championships.

The Braehead quartet, skipped by Jennifer Paul, just failed to clinch a qualification spot after ending the prestigious tournament with two wins and five defeats.

Joining Paul in the Renfrew-based team were Fiona Telfer, Hayley Smith and Clare Lang.

It was the experienced team skipped by Perth ace Eve Muirhead, right, which went on to win the Ladies event.

Winners in the Men’s event were the Aberdeen team led by John Penny.

The quartets led by Muirhead and Penny will now go on to represent Scotland at the World Junior Curling Championships, which take place in Perth next month.

Muirhead and her team-mates Anna Sloan, Vicki Adams and Rhiann Macleod went through the entire Scottish Junior Championships with an unblemished record.

They were up against the rival team from Lockerbie, marshalled by Hannah Fleming in the final, and cruised to an easy 10-4 win after only eight ends.
