FERGUSLIE Cricket Club’s latest outing in the SNCL First Division has ended in disappointment.
The Meikleriggs side played host to title chasers Stirling County and they came unstuck at Meikleriggs with an 87-run defeat.
Opponents Stirling were put into bat and they set a total of 200 from 49.3 overs.
The County squad was, however, limited in its scoring thanks largely to Ferguslie’s overseas professional Pravanjan Mullick, who took four wickets for the loss of just 47, while Ferguslie youngster Jamie Carruthers, above, also had a fine afternoon, taking three for 30.
But the Paisley side could only reach 113 as a succession of their batsmen succumbed to the accurate bowling of County.
The result still leaves the ’Lie rock bottom of the SNCL First Division with just one league win to their name so far.
Ferguslie are at home to Drumpellier this Saturday and will no doubt be aiming to get their campaign on track with a home win.
In the SNCL Second Division Renfrew got back to business with a narrow six-run victory at home to Freuchie.
Skipper Sajid Majeed’s men set a decent score of 219 for the loss of seven wickets, with a major contribution from batsman Fida Hussain, who cracked in a magnificent 106.
In reply, Freuchie could only reach 213 as the ’Frew crept to a slender but morale boosting victory.
Kelburne were also in action as they look to retain the Western Cricket Union First Division title they won last year.
They took on Glasgow Accies at Whitehaugh and set 232 for the loss of seven wickets.
David Harper top-scored with 77, Kenny MacLeod scored 25, while Ryan Morrow and Scott Hamilton also contributed with scores of 33 and 35 respectively.
Accies were caught all out on 166, meaning Kelburne maintain their 100 per cent record at the top of the division.
