TENNIS Scotland’s President Christine Lawrie was guest of honour an award ceremony at the Strathgryffe Tennis Club, in Renfrewshire, where she handed over the Tennis Scotland ‘Participation Award’ 2009.
Strathgryffe Tennis Club held its annual awards ceremony at its clubhouse, where members also received accolades for individual and team achievements over the last year.
Christine presented Alan Marshall, President of Strathgryffe Tennis and Squash Club, with the award.
This is a new award which recognises the club for markedly increasing its membership – especially of juniors, for increasing the number of members in club programmes and for the large number of competitive opportunities which the club offers to its members and to the wider community including local schools.
At the reception, John Stevenson, executive director of Tennis West of Scotland, thanked Strathgryffe for the great contribution that the club is making to British Tennis and presented Tennis Development Manager Susan Weanie with a Tennis Clubmark plaque to display within the club.
Tennis Clubmark is the Lawn Tennis Association's club accreditation award.
In achieving Clubmark, the Lawn Tennis Association and Tennis Scotland are fully endorsing and supporting the programmes which the Strathgryffe team of coaches deliver on court and the policies and procedures that the club has in place.
These ensure that the club is managed effectively and that the club provides a safe environment for its members to enjoy and play tennis.
