Basketball: Seniors face vital ties

IT’S going to be a late night this evening for both St Mirren Basketball Club’s Senior teams as they face crucial games in the build-up to the semi finals of the Scottish Cup.

The men, who are still smarting from last week’s home loss to Glasgow Storm, travel to Musselburgh to face Buccaneers in the first of a double-header that sees the fixtures reversed tomorrow afternoon at Linwood.

And two wins over the weekend would lift morale before the cup game against Falkirk in a fortnight’s time.

The Saints Senior Women, meanwhile, clash with old rivals Falkirk Fury in the Saints Arena at the Lagoon Sports Centre tonight.

And there is no doubt the Buddies will be itching to get back on court.

This is after their game in Ellon last weekend was postponed due to the adverse weather conditions in Grampian.

Saints Cadette Women will face JRW Gladiators from Cumbernauld tomorrow morning at Linwood, in what will be a tough fixture.

But if head coach Lindsay Lang’s young guns want to stay in the title race, it’s one they have to win.

All teams are now preparing for the cup semi finals in the last weekend in February, and good performances over the next two weekends will see all teams full of confidence and going for an unforgettable six Saints teams in the Scottish Cup finals.

Tonight’s fixtures are (Musselburgh Sports Centre) Buccaneers v St Mirren RKC Senior Men, tip-off 8pm, (Lagoon Sports Centre) St Mirren RKC Senior Women v Falkirk Fury, tip-off 8.20pm.

Tomorrow’s fixtures are (Linwood Sports Centre) St Mirren RKC Cadette Women v JRW Gladiators, tip-off 10.45am, (Linwood Sports Centre) St Mirren RKC Senior Men v Buccaneers, tip-off 2.45pm.
