Ice Hockey: Angela storms into the record books

ICE hockey queen Angela Taylor has hit the headlines across the Atlantic after becoming a record- breaker with her team at the University of New Hampshire.

Former St Paul’s Primary and St Andrew’s Academy pupil Angela has helped the university’s Wildcats team to their fifth consecutive Hockey East League championship.

Impressively, 21-year-old Angela has been involved in each of the last four consecutive championship wins.

Proud dad Eric, who has just returned to Paisley after visiting his daughter in the US, said: “I was over seeing Angela for her senior day, which was just before her last regular season home game, and she’s very happy with the way things have been going.

“The UNH Wildcats have won the regular season Hockey East league five times in a row, with Angela’s class setting a record four-in-a-row titles.

“Now they will take part in the play-offs this weekend and, after that, they should be in the NCAA qualifiers.”

Angela and the Wildcats will return to action this Saturday at noon local time for the Hockey East play-offs, which are being televised live on the New England Sports Network (NESN).

The Wildcats will play fourth-seeded opponents Providence College.

Also through to the play-offs are the likes of Boston University and University of Connecticut.

Paisley-born Angela has been living in the US since 2005 after she was hand-picked for a four-year scholarship at the university, where she netted a dream ticket to study and play ice hockey at the same time.

Last year, she captained the Great Britain Women’s National Team to gold medal glory at the 2008 IIHF World Championships, in Miskolc, Hungary.

Angela was also was named Best Forward at the prestigious tournament.
