Ice hockey: Watch the Elite - and boost Pirates coffers

ICE hockey fans can watch a super Elite League hockey match – and raise money for the Braehead Paisley Pirates at the same time.

The new man at the Pirates helm, Scott Neil – who is also owner of the Edinburgh Capitals – has come up with the idea, which will benefit both clubs.

It involves the Edinburgh Capitals bmibaby Elite League clash with Basingstoke Bison, on Sunday February 1.

Half the proceeds from all tickets bought through the Pirates website will be given back to the Braehead-based club.

And for a game still to be decided a reciprocal arrangement will be made for Capitals fans to come to a Pirates game, at Braehead.

Scott Neil said: “This is going to be such a win-win situation for everybody.

“Fans get an ice hockey fix when their favourite team isn’t playing, hopefully the attendance will increase at both rinks and we’ll have a better atmosphere and both clubs get extra income they would not normally have.

“We would only run this promotion when either of the teams don’t have a game.

“This is the first of many ways both Pirates and Capitals can work closely together to help each other and promote ice hockey in Scotland.

“There will be a number of activities arranged to create a relationship between the club personnel, players, and supporters of the respective clubs.”

Tickets for the Edinburgh Capitals game against Basingstoke Bison cost £14.50 for an adult; students/OAPs and concessions £10; child £6.50 and a family of four £36.
