RANFURLY Castle’s Sam Binning finished as top Scot in a creditable third-place at the Welsh Open Stroke Play Championship at Prestatyn Golf Club.
Binning, right, shot rounds of 74, 74, 70 and 71 for a one-over-par total, finishing eight shots behind the runaway winner by seven, Craig Hinton of The Oxfordshire.
Scottish Golf Union National Men’s Squad player Scott Crichton (Aberdour) was a shot further back, posting a fine share of fourth place.
The Fifer had rounds of 70, 76, 72 and 72.
Hinton was the only man under par at the end of 72 holes in difficult, breezy conditions.
Colin Thomson (East Renfrewshire) came 13th, with the challenge of South African Amateur champion Brian Soutar ending after a closing 80.
