Gents lose out

THE Paisley Indoor Bowling Club gents team put up a brave fight away to East Lothian but could do nothing as they slumped to a five-shot defeat.

The final 79-74 result was a testament to the great fight put up by the Buddies as their hosts will be fighting for silverware at the end of the season.

The rink scores were as follows (Paisley skips first): D Stobo 28 S Kennedy 17; J Ross 14 D Oliver 21; J Gilmartin 15 W Wood 17; D Fisher 17 G Robertson 24.

The gents have a home game this week against another title challenger, Blantyre, and the game starts at 2pm.

The teams are as follows: rink one – N Geddes, I Cowan, R Taylor, D Fisher; rink two – D Faulds, B Sinclair, C Bence, J Gilmartin; rink three – C Millar, J O’Sulivan, G Wiggins, D Stobo; rink four – S Fisher, L Young, D Moffat, J Ross.

The Paisley senior gents team had their game postponed on Saturday because Dumbarton were unable to field a team due to a bereavement.

This Saturday sees the seniors side take a trip across the water to play against Cowal. The teams are: rink one – W Wood, A Orr, C Wilson, P Toner; rink two – R Morrow, J Bolland, H Adams, P Duffy; rink three – J Migues, M Walsh, R Williamson, J Dalton; rink four – M McCreadie, J Haxton, W McMeekin, N Rafferty.

The Buddies’ ladies team got off to a great start in their league campaign with an emphatic 104-57 victory over Glasgow.

The rink scores were (Paisley skips first): J Ritchie 28 J Marshall 15; K Houston 20 M Boyd 20; H Dobson 29 B Eastop 11; M Ronald 27 M Bain 11. The ladies have no game this week after Cowal ladies resigned from the league.

Meanwhile, the Gents National Senior Fours side fell at the first hurdle on Sunday, as W Wood, J Bolland, N Rafferty and P Duffy lost 15-10 against Coatbridge at Castlemilk.

The ladies and gents will be represented in the National Two Bowl Pairs this Sunday, however.

The gents travel to Ayr and take on Auchinleck at 11.30am, with G MacLeod and J Ross on duty.

The ladies have been drawn at home and they will play Blantyre at 11.30am, with the team featuring I McLaughlin and H Dobson.

The Wednesday Wappie last week was won by Irene McLaughlin, Robert Cherry and Ena Ellingham with a score of 17 up.

Anyone wishing to participate should pick up their disc at the Wallneuk Road Stadium for 2.20pm each Wednesday.

There will be a special Halloween Wappenschaw on Saturday, October 22, at 4pm, followed by a buffet.

Anyone interested should put their name on the sheet at the reception.
