Bowling: Habbies take pole position

KILBARCHAN are the new team to beat at the top of the Paisley and District Bowling Association Whyte and Mackay Division One.

They sat in second place during the last round of games in the division but this time they stole pole position after a very convincing 12-4 win over Blacklandmill.

Caledonia, leaders last week, kept up their winning ways with a 10-6 win over Renfrew but it wasn’t enough to stop Kilbarchan from overtaking them in the division.

Charleston, although held to an 8-8 draw with Anchor, have moved up to third spot, while Meikleriggs moved away from the drop zone with a 12-4 win over Hawkhead.

And Hawkhead’s defeat proves costly as they are now 11 points adrift at the foot of the table.

In Division Two it’s also all change at the top with Wellmeadow sitting ahead of the pack.

They moved five points clear with one of the most emphatic victories so far this season, a 14-2 win over shell-shocked Neilston.

And previous leaders Victoria could only stand by and watch as they were overtaken after they posted a frustrating 8-8 draw with Abercorn.

Ferguslie enjoyed a good week because they defeated Linwood 9-7 and moved up from third in the table to second, while Ralston took massive strides too, beating poor Priorscroft 11-5.

Neilston now prop up the Division Two table.

Meanwhile, in the Reserve League, Charleston have lost their overall lead at the top of the division.

The best they could muster during the latest round of games was afairly disappointing 2-2 draw with Caledonia.

Championship rivals Ralston capitalised to the full, beating Renfrew 4-0 to go level on points with Charleston at the top.

It now looks like a two horse race between Charleston and Ralston for the Reserve League title.

Meikleriggs experienced disappointment after they lost to Anchor 3-1 and it’s a result that sent them down to third spot.

And strugglers Blacklandmill and Elderslie were left equally disappointed when they fought out a 2-2 draw that suits neither club.

Week three First Division results were: Anchor 8 Charleston 8, Barrhead 6 Elderslie 10, Blacklandmill 4 Kilbarchan 12, Caledonia 10 Renfrew 6, Hawkhead 4 Meikleriggs 12.

Division Two results: Abercorn 8 Victoria 8, Ferguslie 9 Linwood 7, Neilston 2 Wellmeadow 14, Priorscroft 5 Ralston 11.
