Shield in the bag

ELDERSLIE Wallace Bowling Club have notched the first piece of silverware for the season.

The Bravehearts swept to victory in the Paisley and District Bowling Association Co-operative Shield after they posted the highest aggregate points total of 18.

Coming home in second spot were Caledonia who were only one behind on 17 aggregate points, while Charleston were further behind on 16.

The full set of final positions for the Co-operative Shield were as follows: 1 Elderslie 18pts, 2 Caledonia 17pts, 3 Charleston 16pts, 4 Barrhead 15pts, 5 Ferguslie 14 pts, 6 Blacklandmill 13pts, 7 Meikleriggs 12pts, 8 Victoria 11pts, 9 Ralston 10pts, 10 Anchor 9pts, 11 Wellmeadow 8pts, 12 Kilbarchan 7pts, 13 Renfrew 6pts, 14 Neilston 5pts, 15 Hawkhead 4pts, 16 Linwood 4pts, 17 Abercorn 2pts, 18 Priorscroft 1pt.

The highest up rink was from the team from Caledonia who had +28 shots and the team consisted of John Lister at lead, Stan Park at second, Willie Young at third and skip Scot Colquhoun.

Now that the Co-operative Shield competition has drawn to a close, all eyes will be focused on the remaining competitions up for grabs, starting with the Association Trophy.

Based on the aggregate scores from the remaining contests, the race is well and truly on to see who will become top team this season.

Elderslie, meanwhile, will be aiming to make it a clean sweep of victories after their success in the Co-op Shield.

Not only is the Association Trophy next on their hit list but the other remaining competitions too, namely the Oscar Clark, Chrysler Trophy, Burgh Cup and Jubilee Trophy.
