Bowling: League triumph is the icing on their birthday cake

VICTORIA has marked its 150th anniversary year by becoming the Paisley and District Indoor Bowling Association First Division Champions.

Victoria won the title by beating runners-up Inchinnan 6-2 and finishing with a marvellous 100 per cent winning record at home.

Woodlands finished third, bettering the fourth place they got last year, with a 5-3 win against Hawkhead.

Blacklandmills’ 6-2 win against the early title challengers Meikleriggs was little consolation for them as they drop down a division.

Shanks and Kilbarchan share fifth spot and the Habbies now secure their place in the First Division.

Inkerman’s emphatic 8-0 win against Renfrew ensured their survival when they found out that JG Fleming’s 6-2 win away to Wellmeadow wasn’t good enough to take them to safety.

In Division Two, Caledonia made sure they finished in third place with a 8-0 victory against Johnstone.

Barrhead held on to the fourth promotion place when they drew 4-4 at Linwood, who must have wished they could have used their home advantage to have gained promotion.

Elderslie Wallace ensured their own survival winning 8-0 at home to Neilston.

Charleston and Nitshill, meanwhile, could only draw 4-4.

In the other game, Midton and Crofthead finished off their seasons with a 4-4 draw.

Ferguslie’s 5-3 win at Eaglesham was enough to give them the Division Two title, while Lilybank’s 7-1 win against Crookston erased any hopes they had for promotion this season.

Bridge of Weir won their derby at British Legion 6-2.

Ralston’s tremendous 8-0 win against the Paisley Comrades means that they are promoted, whilst Priorscroft – who finished one point behind Ralston – were unable to play an outstanding game against Lilybank and thus were denied the chance of promotion.

In Reserve Division One, Renfrew retained the title with a 5-1 win

At the top of Reserve Division Two, title winners Charleston were defeated 2-4 at Meikleriggs.

Runners up Elderslie Wallace won 4-2 away to second bottom Inchinnan B.

Ferguslie win the third promotion place when they beat Inkerman 4-2.

Johnstone won 4-2 against Victoria but they have it all to do again this week in a play-off for the last promotion place.
