Bowling: Gents are too strong for Bainfield

THE Paisley Indoor Bowling Club’s Gents team made sure they were to the fore when they posted a 86-54 win over Bainfield in their latest outing.

The Buddies had four winning rinks on the day and the results were as follows: J Ross 25 C Steven 10, D Moffat 18 R Marshall 16, J Gilmartin 22 P O’Donnell 16, W Killens 21 G Smith 12.

The Gents have no game tomorrow as the National Playdowns take place at Coatbridge over the weekend.

Paisley’s representative is Charlie Miller, who plays the champion from Nithsdale in his first round match tomorrow at 1.30pm.

Meanwhile, the Seniors team at Paisley Indoor BC lost again in their league section and that means, after just three games, that they are virtually out of the running for the title.

They lost at home to Lanarkshire 67-58 and the scores were as follows: T Pattison 12 J Keating 14, W Wood 18 A Milligan 20, J Cruikshank 14 J Close 17, P Duffy 14 A Whitelaw 16.

This week the seniors are at home to Cowal, aiming to bounce back from their disappointment.

After a fine home win last week the Paisley Ladies lost out to Ardrossan 61-100.

Unfortunately the ladies had no winning rinks and the scores were as follows: H Dobson lost 8-37, AM Fletcher lost 20-22, J Ritchie lost 18-21 and G Palmer slumped 15-20.

Tomorrow the ladies entertain East Kilbride.

In other news David Fisher and his brother Steven had to withdraw from the National Two Bowl Pairs competition and last year’s runner-up Michael Walsh and Drew Stobo took their place instead.

The new Paisley duo beat the team from Irvine 2-1 but in the next round of the competition their hopes ended with a 2-0 defeat to Lanarkshire.

This Sunday the Paisley Committee team take on Blantyre in a Morrison League game.

Meanwhile, the first piece of silverware of the season in the Paisley and District Indoor Bowling Association is up for grabs next week.

On Wednesday, October 29, the John Buchanan Trophy matches will be held.

Also taking place the same day is the Hector McKinnon Trophy, which is sure to be another thrilling competition.

On Wednesday, December 3, the John Henderson Trophy will be held.

The next big tournament is on Monday, February 16, when the George Ogilvie Trophy matches are held and on the same day the early rounds of the Champion of Champion events will be staged at various venues across Paisley and District.

Then on Monday, February 23, the George Ogilvie Trophy matches continue, as do the next rounds of the champion of champions.
