Six vie for lead

THERE is a six-way tie at the top of the Paisley Veterans Bowling Association Short Carpet League after the opening round of fixtures of the 2008/09 campaign.

Abercorn, Blacklandmill, Caledonia, Anchor, Inchinnan and Wellmeadow are all in a share of first place after convincing opening day victories.

Abercorn ran out 8-0 winners over Meikleriggs, Anchor defeated Priorscroft by the same score, the ’Mill had a similar whitewash win over Ralston as did Caledonia over Renfrew, and Inchinnan and Wellmeadow secured shut-out successes against Kilbarchan and Lochfield respectively.

Victoria are in seventh spot after they edged Charleston 5-3 in a close encounter while Elderslie and Hawkhead shared the spoils in a 4-4 draw in the day’s other fixture. Ferguslie had a free week.

Week two: Fixtures – Victoria v Ferguslie, Renfrew v Elderslie, Ralston v Charleston, Priorscroft v Caledonia, Meikleriggs v Blacklandmill, Lochfield v Anchor, Kilbarchan v Abercorn, Inchinnan v Wellmeadow, Hawkhead idle.
