Young track stars shine

HOLLY Belch earned her first major title in the Scottish Championships at Pitreavie.

The Kilbarchan AC member won the 100m Hurdles in 14.86secs having recorded 14.81secs in the heat.

Not only that, Holly also won silver in the 400m Hurdles, smashing her best with a time of 61.22secs, just 0.1secs outside Elaine McLaughlin’s 25 year-old club record.

There was also a superb club record for Martin Lipton, who was second in the 400m Hurdles in 52.26secs and Craig Fleming was second in the 200m in 22.10secs.

David Watson was second in the Triple Jump with a good effort of 14.85m and Kilbarchan clubmate Cameron Clark equalled his best with 14.31m – which earned the Bronze medal.

And Claire Gibson successfully retained her National 800 metres title with a time of 2mins 2.23secs.

Elsewhere, Leanne Hamilton was second woman in the East Kilbride Half marathon, in a Personal Best time of 81mins 21secs and Tom Hearle was third in the Pollok 5K race.

The Kilbarchan ‘Ultra Men’ were also out competing in the West Highland Way race, setting off from Milngavie at 1am to compete over the 95 miles to Fort William.

Neal Gibson finished a superb seventh, in 18hrs 42mins, a Kilbarchan club record, while John Kynaston in 13th place, set a personal best of 19hrs 51mins 59secs for this gruelling race.
