Athletics: Alison selected for international duty

KILBARCHAN Athletic Club’s Alison Rodger will win her first Senior GB vest this weekend after being selected for International duty.

She heads to Portugal with the GB and Northern Ireland team for the European Team Championships, where she will contest the Shot Putt event.

Club-mate Claire Gibson, meanwhile, continued her recent outstanding form at the British Milers Club meeting at Watford, running a time of 2minutes 2.21secs for the 800m.

At the same meeting there was a superb run by Derek Hawkins who clocked 14mins 27.87secs over 5000m.

This weekend the Scottish Championships are at Pitreavie and Claire Gibson will be leading the Kilbarchan contingent.

On the roads, Paul Arcari won the Isle of Hoy ½ marathon in 74 minutes 33 seconds.

Michael Finlay was second in the Lochwinnoch Six Mile Road Race, and Callum Matthews won the four-mile Junior Race.

There were also local athletes at the Vale of Leven 10K Road Race, at the Pollok Park 5K and at the Isle of Skye half marathon where John McInnes was top over-55 athlete.

And in Wales, Jessica Martin competed in the Trials for the GB team for the European Mountain Running Championships, where she finished seventh in the Junior race.
