Athletics: Habbies put on good shows

ATHLETES from Kilbarchan AC produced some fine performances when they took part in the National Junior League meeting at Grangemouth.

Sally Webster, competing for Team Glasgow, smashed her Kilbarchan under-20s Hammer record with a throw measured at 29.31m.

And Holly Belch, who was competing for Sale Manchester, won the 400m Hurdles in a Personal Best of 62.63secs.

More locally, there was a much improved performance from Kilbarchan Athletic Club at the second meeting of the Central and South of Scotland League at Linwood Sports Centre.

The club finished in second place behind Ayr Seaforth AC and there were some top performances in cool, windy conditions.

Judith McNicol was a double winner for the Senior Women, clearing 4.59m in the Long Jump and also winning the 100m Hurdles in 18.6secs.

Hazel Ross won the under 17 womens 80m Hurdles in 12.7secs and in the under-15 girls age group, Sarah Glenny, in her first race for the club, was an impressive winner of the 200m in 27secs.

Frances Campbell won the 200m B race in a fast 27.1secs.

Conor McNulty led from early on to win the Senior 1500m in 3mins 56.3secs, with Paul Leck winning the B race and John McMillan winning the Veterans event.

Cameron Clark was third in the High Jump (1.60m) and also third in the Long Jump (6.24m), while Craig Stewart was third in the 200m, timed at 22.6secs.

For the under-17 men, Andrew Cunningham won the Shot (11.62m) and was third in the Javelin (32.43m).

Jack Lochans won the Triple Jump (11.09m) and Connor Henderson was first in the 100m Hurdles with a time of 16secs.

The club also produced some impressive 4x100m relay performances, starting with the under-15 girls team of Corinne Brooks, Frances Campbell, Chelsea McDougall and Sarah Glenny winning in 53.7secs.

The under-17 mens quartet of Jack Lochans, Andrew Cunningham, James Quinn and Connor Henderson were good winners in 47.2secs and in the final event of the day, the Senior Mens team of Mark Chisholm, Craig Stewart, Gary Stevenson and Cameron Clark were impressive in winning, timed at 44.3secs.

On the roads, Paul Arcari got back to winning ways after his recent illness which caused him to miss the London Marathon.

Paul won the Mull of Kintyre half marathon at Campbeltown in 70mins 58secs.
