MEMBERS of Kilbarchan Athletic Club have once again hit the headlines for a series of outstanding performances.
As well as all the other indoor and outdoor athletic events taking place in Scotland over the last few days involving Kilbarchan Athletic Club members, the Habbies also had a group of 12 young stars competing in Belfast.
The Kilbarchan dozen took part in the Northern Ireland Junior Indoor Championships and despite some excellent opposition the Habbies achieved some great results.
Hazel Ross, who won the Scottish Schools High Jump title last week, won the Irish under-16s title with an outstanding 1.71m clearance.
Her effort was, in fact, a Personal Best which would have been a Championship Best Performance had she leapt such a distance during the Scottish Schools event at the Kelvin Hall.
But Hazel’s achievements didn’t stop there.
The Park Mains High School pupil was a double winner, taking also the under-17s 60m Hurdles title in 9.21secs.
At the same meeting, but in the under-16 age group, there were silver medals for Jack Lochans in the High Jump, clearing 1.70m, and for Frances Campbell in the 60m where she delivered a personal best time of 8.46secs.
Kilbarchan’s trip to Belfast was aided with the use of a mini bus being donated by Andy McCusker of Active Rentals, and the club would like to extend its thanks to Andy for his help and assistance.
Elsewhere, Kilbarchan’s Paul Arcari was in terrific form, winning the RAF Kinloss to Lossiemouth half marathon. He crossed the line in the fast time of 66mins 55secs, which indicates that his London Marathon preparations are going well.
