ALTHOUGH Kilbarchan Athletic Club were unable to defend their team title at the Scottish 4K Cross Country Championships, there were good performances and team awards in the Young Athletes Open races.
Paul Leck was the best placed Kilbarchan athlete in the mens’ 4K, finishing in 10th place.
Underfoot conditions were very difficult but Paul coped well, finishing in 13mins 10secs, with teammate Scott Hawkins 14th in 13mins 19secs.
In the Women’s race, Elspeth Curran finished 14th in 16mins 0secs, with Leanne Hamilton one place behind.
There were some fine performances in the young athletes’ races over 2k.
Gwen Gillham was second in the under 13 girls race and the girls were third team with Kathryn Lee 18th and Catherine McLean 19th.
These three girls are all just in their first year in the age group, so it was a fine effort.
Meanwhile, the under 15 girls did well to finish second placed team with Elaine Eadie 4th, Jenny Eadie 7th and Vanessa Hogan 11th.
There was also good packing by the under 13 boys team to win the team award with Callum Matthews 7th, Euan Gillham 8th and Rorie Tracey 12th.
Russell Mountford had a fine run in the under 15 boys race, finishing in third place.
