ATHLETES from Kilbarchan AC performed with distinction during the Scottish Closed and West District Indoor Championships at the Kelvin Hall at the weekend.
There were some top class performances from local athletes and Craig Stewart had a superb double success, winning Scottish titles in the 200m in 22.58secs and also the 400m, timed at 49.09.
In fact, his time in the 400m heats was even faster – a staggering 48.95secs.
David Watson won the triple jump title with a leap of 14.65m and teammate Cameron Clark was second with 13.83m.
Alison Rodger showed excellent form to win the women’s shot with a putt of 14.52m.
In the mens’ shot, Andy Dawkins was second despite smashing his own club record with a superb 15.87m.
In the women’s 200m, Alyssa Fullelove, running under Victoria Park Glasgow, won in 26.18secs.
The West District Indoor Championships were decided at the same venue and again the Kilbarchan club provided a number of medallists.
Andrew McLaughlan retained his under 17 men’s shot title with a good effort of 14.50m and Andrew Cunningham was third with a personal best of 11.86m.
Also for the under 17s, Jack Lochans had a very successful outing, winning three medals, gold in the triple jump (11.34m), silver in the high jump with a personal best of 1.75m and bronze in the 60m hurdles (9.70s). David Kerr won two medals in the under 17 sprints, third in the 200m in 24.49s and second in the 400m in 53.89secs.
In the under 17 women’s age category, Hazel Ross was second in the high jump (1.55m) and third in the 60m hurdles, timed at 9.37secs.
Other medallists included Frances Campbell, third in the under 15 girls 60m (8.51s), Corinne Brooks third in the under-15 girls High Jump (1.35m) and Stuart Cannell, who was third in the under 13 boys 60m with a time of 8.9secs.
There was another outstanding run by Callum Hawkins at Cardiff, representing Scotland in the Celtic International Cross Country event.
It was particularly remarkable as Callum, just 16, competed in the under 20s race and won convincingly, by 50 metres.
In the under 23 Mens race, Derek Hawkins was fourth.
Meanwhile Elspeth Curran was also fourth in the under 23 women’s race.
