King Kenny Dalglish is heading for Renfrew!

CELTIC, Scotland and Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish is coming to Renfrew to kick-off a football extravaganza.

Dalglish will join forces with young Buddies to support football in the community at the McDonald’s Football Open Day.

The event, which takes place at KGV playing fields in Renfrew on Thursday, is organised by Paisley McDonald’s franchisee, Peter O’Keefe, in partnership with St Mirren FC.

The free Open Day is aimed at all the family and will kick off at 9.30am at the Renfrew Pavilion.

On the day, youngsters can get involved in mini tournaments, try their hand at coaching, practice skills on the inflatables, and sign up to get involved with a local club.

There will also be a competition for the youngsters to win the chance to walk out with their Scotland and Macedonia football heroes ahead of September’s World Cup qualifier.

Casting a close eye over the local footy talent will be ‘King Kenny’ – McDonald’s head of Scottish football – who will be on hand to offer tips and advice to the local youngsters.

Peter who runs restaurants in Paisley and at Braehead, told the Paisley Daily Express: “The McDonald’s Open Day is a fantastic opportunity for the whole community to get together and enjoy the nation’s favourite game, as well as receiving some great coaching tips and meeting new friends within a fun-packed day.

“We’re proud to be partnered with St Mirren and support the great work they do for grassroots football in our area and we’re looking forward to seeing as many people as possible coming along on Thursday to join in the fun”

St Mirren assistant community coach Robert Campbell, said: “We really appreciate the support that Peter and his restaurant have given the club.

“From new kit to training equipment and now support with the Open Day, it really has been fantastic.

“We hope to see a lot of new faces coming to see us at our stand to find out more about how they can get involved, whether it’s joining as a player, becoming a coach or volunteering – everyone is welcome.”

Kenny Dalglish, head of McDonald’s Scottish football, added: “The Open Day is a great way to bring football, families and fun together.

“The franchisees are such a big part of the McDonald’s business and it’s great to see them supporting their local clubs and helping to improve the standard of grassroots football, making it even more accessible for people in the community to get involved whatever their age or experience with the sport with these Open Days.”
