Saints kid Reilly fit for action

Saints starlet Thomas Reilly is winning the race to be fit for tonight’s Scottish Communities League Cup clash with Ayr United after recovering from a horror tackle by Motherwell hardman Shaun Hutchinson.

The 17-year-old striker was lucky not to suffer serious injury when Hutchinson clattered into his left ankle during the 1-1 SPL draw at Fir Park on Sunday.

Hutchinson was shown a second yellow card for his challenge on Reilly, and the St Mirren youngster had the last laugh when he popped up to notch a 93rd-minute equaliser.

Reilly — who has been handed a call-up to the Scotland Under-19 squad for the match against Holland next month — had to limp out of Fir Park after the final whistle but has since recovered from his ankle knock. Last night, Buddies boss Danny Lennon said: “Thomas took a sore one but was back in with us for training this morning.”

Lennon also welcomed Reilly’s Scotland call-up and added: “It’s great news for Thomas.”
