St Mirren striker in fight to be fit for League Cup game against Ayr United

Saints hitman Lewis Guy faces a race against time to be fit for tomorrow night’s League Cup second round clash at home to Ayr United.

Former MK Dons ace Guy was eligible to play in Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Motherwell after completing a two-match suspension but suffered a hamstring problem which ruled him out of action.

However, Danny Lennon hopes to have the St Mirren new boy fighting fit for the cup tie against the Honest Men.

Last night, Lennon said: “Lewis picked up a hamstring problem but he was able to train this morning.

“Hopefully, he has a good evening and turns up to training fit and well on Tuesday.

“If he does and he’s okay, then he will train and he will be available for the match against Ayr United, which will help us.”

Saints are also assessing the fitness of teenager striker Thomas Reilly, who has an ankle problem after he was on the receiving end of a crunching tackle by Shaun Hutchinson at Fir Park.
