SAINTS supporters will find out this afternoon which team stands in their way in the second round of the Scottish Communities League Cup as the Buddies aim to march on all the way to Hampden.
The 2010 finalists are the second seeds for today’s draw but could find themselves reacquainting themselves with Rangers ... just weeks after voting to boot them out of the SPL.
The liquidated Ibrox club has been banished to the Third Division and. with their top-flight membership ripped up, they were forced to enter the League Cup at the first round stage.
Ally McCoist’s men kicked-off their quest for silverware with a 4-0 win over East Fife on Tuesday night and will now join other unseeded clubs Morton, Partick Thistle, Raith Rovers, Ayr United, Queen of the South, Arbroath, Dumbarton, Stenhousemuir, Queen’s Park and Montrose in St Mirren’s list of potential round two opponents.
The Buddies reached the quarter-finals in last season’s competition before suffering an embarrassing defeat at the hands of First Division outfit Ayr.
Today’s second round draw will take place at Hampden at 1pm.
