Midfielder Mooy leaves St Mirren and goes back to Oz

SAINTS midfielder Aaron Mooy yesterday officially severed his ties with the Paisley club.

As first revealed by Express Sports 12 days ago, the Australian youngster has been allowed to rip up his deal so he can join West Sydney FC.

The Buddies received Mooy’s signed release papers yesterday morning and he is now expected to ply his trade for the Australian A-League newcomers. Mooy, 21, joined St Mirren from Bolton Wanderers in 2010 but was used sparingly by manager Danny Lennon.

He will be best remembered by the Paisley faithful for his fantastic goal against Rangers in the 2-1 SPL win at St Mirren Park on Christmas Eve.

St Mirren general manager Brian Caldwell said: “This move will give Aaron the opportunity to play more first team football, which he really needs at this stage of his career.

“He has been in the UK for the last six years, so I’m sure he will be glad to get back home to Australia, where he will look to push on with his career.

“We would like to thank Aaron for his efforts while here at St Mirren and we wish him all the best for the future.”
