MIDFIELD ace Steven Thomson has been ruled out of this Saturday’s trip to Celtic Park after picking up a calf injury during the weekend win over Dunfermline.
Thomson was forced to hobble off after just 18 minutes of Saturday’s game and Buddies boss Danny Lennon has revealed the former Falkirk player won’t recover in time for the SPL showdown with the Hoops.
The medical staff at St Mirren Park are trying to work out if the injury is related to a calf problem which left Thomson sidelined earlier this season.
Lennon said: “I really feel for Stevie because he worked hard to get back in the team after his last injury.
“We both felt he was ready to return to the side, so to pick up another knock so soon afterwards is a real blow.
“He had done everything right the last time and rested as advised but now this has happened.”
Lennon also revealed that striker Jon McShane is causing concern on the injury front.
He said: “Jon was on the bench on Saturday but wasn’t risked as he had picked up a little calf strain. He felt it was tight and, while he wants to continue training and playing, we will keep an eye on him as a precaution.”
