THERE are still more than five weeks to go until Christmas ... but fans on Buddie Banter are already turning their attention to the January transfer window.
And they reckon a “Return of the Saint” transfer swoop would be a major boost to the Paisley club’s hopes of ending the season in the top six of the SPL.
Former St Mirren midfielder Andy Dorman has fallen out of favour at Crystal Palace and has been farmed out to Bristol Rovers on loan until early January.
The 29-year-old Welsh international was a big favourite with the Paisley faithful during his two and a half years at Saints.
And some supporters would love to see the former MLS star back in a black and white jersey.
Scott McClymont (@mcclymontscott) used Twitter to say: “Bristol Rovers have signed former St Mirren man Andy Dorman on loan from Crystal Palace until January 2. Could we see him back in the SPL soon?”
Regular contributor William Livingstone, of Ralston, Paisley, is also hoping to see ‘handy Andy’ back at St Mirren Park.
He e-mailed to say: “I was a big fan of Andy Dorman when he played for St Mirren and I’ve been keeping an eye on his situation at Crystal Palace.
“It doesn’t look like he has a future at Palace and I’d be delighted to see him back in Paisley during the January transfer window.
“He’d be even more prolific for Saints second time around because Danny Lennon has the team playing attacking football these days.”
Meanwhile, some St Mirren fans would like to see Lennon make a move for former Rangers midfielder Stephen Hughes.
The Scotland international has rejoined Motherwell on a short-term deal but could be available if things don’t work out for him at Fir Park.
Douglas McNeil (@DouglasMcNeil) said: “Would St Mirren fans want Stephen Hughes in their side? Signed for Motherwell short term but available.
“Personally, I think he would fit in well.”
And Colin Munro (@Bass_Cadet) added: “If fit, I think Hughes would have been a welcome addition.”
To more pressing matters now ... namely St Mirren’s home game against Dunfermline tomorrow.
Jordan Byrne (@Jordan_1877) has a special message for his favourite St Mirren player, Nigel Hasselbaink, ahead of this weekend’s SPL showdown.
He said: “Hope you are ready to knock a few goals by Dunfermline on Saturday!”
However, Stuart Gillespie (@SMTID) fears a former Saints star could come back to haunt the Buddies tomorrow.
He said: “Profit from the inevitable – John Potter is 20/1 to score at any time against St Mirren on Saturday. Fiver duly placed.”
