No sleep till Hampden for Murray

ST MIRREN midfielder Hugh Murray reckons hell barely get a good nights sleep between now and the Paisley clubs Co-operative Insurance Cup Final appearance at Hampden next month.

Murray, 31, is already playing his own late-night waiting game with his wife Janine as the happy couple are expecting twins at any time.

And Shuggie, who performed brilliantly during Tuesday nights 1-0 semi-final win over Hearts at Fir Park, Motherwell, is preparing himself for plenty of sleepless nights before he steps out at Hampdens field of dreams on Sunday, March 21.

The Saints stalwart told Express Sports: Ive had a tough few days because my wife is expecting twins. She has been in hospital since Sunday, so Ive not really had much sleep.

She is 32 weeks gone on Sunday and wasnt keeping too well, so the doctors brought her in and gave her some drugs to stop the labour.

However, shes coming off those now and the doctors say she could give birth at any time but what a week it could turn out to be getting to a cup final and welcoming the arrival of two babies as well.

Its a waiting game for me but I dont mind at all because I love kids.

Yesterday, Murray was still over the moon after his teams heroics on Tuesday night as a Billy Mehmet screamer was enough to see off the Jambos and ensure that Saints booked a place in the League Cup Final for the first time in 55 years.

Im not sure it has sunk in yet, said Shuggie. To be honest, I thought we deserved to beat Hearts. We were absolutely superb.

Murray, who has made more league appearances for St Mirren than other player in the Paisley clubs history, insists next months cup final will be one of the major high points in his illustrious career.

He said: Ive won a couple of First Division championships and a Challenge Cup before but to get to a major final is absolutely superb. I still cant believe we are there.

From the first whistle onwards, I thought the boys were brilliant against Hearts.

There wasnt a failure in our team and I think we could have won by a bigger scoreline because we missed a couple of chances to make it 2-0, which would have made things slightly more comfortable for ourselves.
