Gus: There could have been six goals

ST Mirren manager Gus MacPherson reckoned Saturday’s clash with Hibs could have been a six-goal thriller.

And MacPherson admitted the game in the first half was open and a scoreline of 3-3 would have been a fair reflection of play.

Ultimately however, MacPherson’s side were undone three minutes into stoppage time by a Jack Ross own goal.

MacPherson said: “We are disappointed because we put so much into the game.

“We competed well against an extremely good Hibs team and we competed for long spells with them. But the goal in the 92nd or 93rd minute was disappointing.

“We defended well and we probably had the best chance of being 2-0 up in the first half. But we missed that opportunity.

“Then we lost a poor first goal from our point of view. But for long periods we competed well.

“There were other opportunities, such as one for Michael Higdon who had a good chance but ultimately it was a poor goal that we lost for the first one.

“There were other chances because Billy Mehmet had a good chance to score too.

“If we had gone in 3-3 at half time I think it would have been a truer reflection of the game.”

MacPherson refused to slate the Easter Road pitch which cut up badly during the 90 minutes. He said: “If you look at the majority of pitches around Scotland at the moment they are not in great condition.

“All things considered, I thought it was a decent game of football, even with the way the pitch is at the moment.”
