Gaffer's seeking summer friendlies

SAINTS boss Gus MacPherson is actively trying to get some additional warm-up matches for his Buddies before the SPL season kicks-off.

St Mirren begin the competitive season on Sunday, August 2, when they take on East Stirlingshire in the Co-operative Insurance League Cup First Round at Ochilview.

But following that game, Saints will not have another competitive outing until 13 days later when they play Hibs at Easter Road in the SPL opener.

And the St Mirren Park gaffer will look into the possibility of arranging a friendly match either on Saturday, August 8, or Sunday, June 9, to keep the Saints active.

He said: “We’ll need a game to keep us ticking over until the SPL kicks-off on August 15, so we are actively looking for a game to be played sometime over the weekend before the league season starts.”

MacPherson will also look for bounce game opponents when the Saints are in Lake Garda next month for their fitness drive.

He added: “We expect to play a game or two while we are in Italy, but nothing is confirmed yet.”
