Handy Andy’s phenomenal, says Stephen

MIDFIELD magician Andy Dorman has been praised for the “phenomenal” impact he has made at St Mirren.

Dorman, below, bagged 12 goals in a black and white jersey last season and played a major role in helping Gus MacPherson’s side to avoid the dreaded drop.

Now his midfield Buddie Stephen O’Donnell has hailed the former New England Revolution star as a shining example to the other players at St Mirren Park.

O’Donnell said: “Andy has been brilliant as he’s scored 12 goals from midfield and, when you’re playing for a team in St Mirren’s position, that’s phenomenal.

“His goals have been a big help to the team this season because they have added up to a lot of points for us.”

Dorman’s fine form, particularly towards the end of the season, saw him linked with big-money moves to Old Firm giants Celtic and Rangers.

He has also been attracting plenty of interest from clubs south of the border.

But Saints are in no hurry to sell their prize asset, who is tied to the Paisley club for another year.

While Dorman’s St Mirren career has gone from strength to strength, O’Donnell’s time with the Buddies has been a largely frustrating experience.

He spent most of last season hobbling around after suffering a torn knee ligament which required surgery.

However, O’Donnell reckons his torrid time on the sidelines has only made him a stronger character.

He said: “It’s been unfortunate because I wanted to give last season a good go but these things happen in football.

“You might as well give up if you let an injury get you down and feel as though the world is against you.

“I thought my season would be finished but I managed to come back towards the end of the campaign.”
