Millen: We're not safe from the drop yet

ST MIRREN assistant manager Andy Millen has warned his players they cannot afford to rest on their laurels as they go into the final SPL game of the season.

He is urging the Buddies to give one last push when Hamilton Accies come to town on Saturday.

Saints will be safe from relegation if they manage to avoid a defeat by three or more goals.

And the Paisley men’s SPL status will also be secure – regardless of the result against Hamilton – if Falkirk fail to win away at Inverness Caley Thistle.

Millen, right, said: “There’s still a wee bit to go as we still have another game remaining. It’s not yet mathematically certain that we are safe, so we have to go again.”

A victory for Saints over Hamilton will mean they will finish above the Accies in the SPL table and it would also be enough to earn ninth place should Inverness fail to beat the Bairns.

Millen is hopeful that the Buddies can play as well against Billy Reid’s team on Saturday as they did against Falkirk at the weekend.

He added: “We will be back at our home ground this weekend and we want to put on the same type of performance and, hopefully, get the same type of result.”

Saints are unbeaten against Accies this season and will be hoping to keep that run going on Saturday.

They recorded a 2-1 victory at New Douglas Park back on October 18, courtesy of goals from Franco Miranda and Billy Mehmet.

A Craig Dargo strike was enough to earn all three points at Love Street on December 27 and the Buddies managed to secure a 0-0 draw when they returned to Hamilton on March 21.
