The road to crunch tie made us ill

RIGHT-BACK Jack Ross admitted nerves almost got the better of his Buddies as they counted down the hours to Saturday’s tremendous 2-0 victory away to Falkirk.

Ross revealed how the importance of the weekend encounter with the Bairns made several of the Saints first team feel physically sick.

But the 32 year-old, who made his comeback from a hamstring injury during the crunch game, reckoned that Gus MacPherson’s side easily overcame their woozy sensation.

And instead they made Falkirk as sick as parrots with the manner of their performance.

Ross said: “There were nerves in our dressing room before it.

“I would be lying completely if I said there wasn’t.

“And a few of the boys have commented on this, including myself, that we almost felt physically sick in the morning of the game.

“That was how important the result of this match was for us.

“It's that fine line between having yourself so pumped up that you feel that way, yet we still went out and performed.

“We managed to get it spot on.

“It’s difficult to say why, but that’s the most I’ve been as keyed up for a game for a long time.

“We knew how important this game was and once the game started there was a real release.

“I think that every single one of our players would say they enjoyed it.”

Ross believes Saints got back to what they do best at the weekend, working hard and playing with confidence.

He said: “I thought we were terrific, especially in the first half.

“We could have been out of sight early doors.

“But that was due to the fact that we got back to doing what we do best, which is working hard and giving ourselves a good foundation.

“We really played some good stuff at times too.”
