SAINTS stars are queuing up to follow in the footsteps of Billy Mehmet.
The Buddies striker, right, was crowned the official website’s Player of the Year last season, and voting is already taking place to find his successor.
And there’s still time to register your nomination for your favourite player.
The St Mirren player with the most votes will be presented with the prestigious award at the Premier Awards Dinner on Friday, May 29, at the Normandy Hotel in Renfrew.
The official Buddies website – www.saintmirren.net – will reveal the winner at the event.
Players likely to be in the running for this year’s trophy are Andy Dorman, runner-up to Mehmet last season.
Dorman has enjoyed a spectacular return to form which stoked speculation Rangers and Celtic are lining up bids to sign him.
Other favourites include defender Jack Ross and Will Haining.
And some other players who could poll a big number of votes are Craig Dargo, Garry Brady and Hugh Murray.
Meanwhile Chris Smith is a contender, despite the fact he has been ruled out till the end of the campaign with a knee injury.
And sources say Billy Mehmet himself could be in the running for two-in-a-row glory.
His 11 goals this season are sure to make him a contender for honours.
If you want to vote send an e-mail, with your choice of player, and marked “POTY-2008-2009”, to norrie@saintmirren. net.
You can only vote for a player who has appeared for the club in a league game during the season.
Voting is limited to one per e-mail address.
All votes must be received by 6pm on Friday, May 8.
