Reserves can impress against United

FRINGE players at St Mirren will get another chance to impress gaffer Gus MacPherson today as they play their last home game of the SPL Reserve League season.

The Saints reserves take on Dundee United at St Mirren Park in a game that will kick off at 1.30pm.

And, for many members of the squad, today’s encounter represents a great opportunity to produce a good display and give themselves a fighting chance of a call-up for this Saturday’s Homecoming Scottish Cup semi-final clash with Rangers at Hampden.

St Mirren’s second string go into this afternoon’s game on the back of last week’s 2-1 win over Kilmarnock at Rugby Park, where Jim Hamilton and Gary Mason were the goalscorers.

Meanwhile, striker Billy Mehmet, who missed Saturday’s 2-0 SPL win over Motherwell at Fir Park with a hamstring strain, faces a race against time to be fit for the Hampden glamour game.

Mehmet’s first team place was taken by Jim Hamilton at Fir Park, while Dennis Wyness was able to make an appearance as a substitute after recovering from injury.
