See rising Scots stars, urges Gus

BUDDIES boss Gus MacPherson is urging fans to check out the stars of the future at St Mirren Park tonight as the stadium stages an historic match.

Scotland’s under-18 side will take on their English counterparts in the first international fixture to be staged at St Mirren’s new home.

And, yesterday, MacPherson teamed up with Scots starlets Paul Leighfield and Greg Munn to encourage Saints supporters to go along to the game.

The match, which is being broadcast live on Sky Sports, kicks off at 7.35pm and admission costs £5 for adults and £3 for children, which can be paid at the gate.

Meanwhile, MacPherson expects tomorrow’s SPL clash between St Mirren and Motherwell to be real end-to-end entertainment for the fans.

And he insists he won’t resort to employing long ball tactics against Mark McGhee’s Steelmen.

MacPherson said: “We have played well this season but have not picked up the points that we feel we should have collected.

“We have to continue to be positive. It’s going to be tough against Motherwell but there is no point in us kicking it long. We have to try to build up from the back.

“Some of our recent matches have been open games but we feel that, with the players we have at our disposal, that’s the best way for us to play.”
