We must jump to it, says Robb

SAINTS’ midfielder Steven Robb reckons beating Hamilton Accies in next weekend’s SPL showdown would be even better than last Sunday’s stunning success against Rangers.

Robb was thrilled by the sensational 1-0 win against the Ibrox side but he believes that finishing above the Accies in the league table this season would be even more satisfying.

The Buddies will leapfrog Billy Reid’s men in the SPL standings if they claim victory at New Douglas Park next Saturday.

Former Dundee United ace Robb said: “We’ve had a great result over Rangers but now we have what is probably an even bigger game to look forward to against Hamilton Accies.

“We must perform against Hamilton the way we performed against Rangers.

“It would be a waste to play so well against Rangers and then fail to kick on against Hamilton.

“Everyone here – myself, the other players and the coaching staff included – will be looking for a win at New Douglas Park.”

The Saints squad can enjoy a well-earned break this weekend following their heroic performance against Rangers.

With Scotland’s crucial World Cup qualifier against Norway taking centre stage this afternoon, the Love Street men will be able to put their feet up.

But Robb admits feelings about the international break are mixed within the St Mirren camp.

The 26-year-old said: “Some of the boys would have liked to have carried on playing this weekend.

“We’ve built up some momentum by beating Rangers and we need to keep that going.”

Robb, who has been in impressive form on the left side of midfield this season, said there is every reason to believe that Saints can climb higher up the SPL table in the games to come.

But he knows it will take a big effort from everyone at the club if the Buddies are to improve on last season’s 10th place finish.

“We have to think about kicking on to the next level,” said Robb. “When you look at the table, we are only five points away from third place and that is no great margin at all, especially if we win our next couple of games.

“We feel that, if we can pass the ball around well, then we can be a match for any side.

“It’s important that we have belief in our own ability and be confident enough in what we are doing. Then it’s a case of going out every week to prove what we are capable of.”
