OLD Firm opponents Rangers handed out a 3-0 defeat to St Mirren’s under-19s yesterday afternoon in a league clash at McKenna Park.
The young Buddies played host to the Ibrox club’s under-19s aiming to emulate the Saints first team, who defeated the Light Blues at Love Street on Sunday.
But it wasn’t to be for David Longwell’s side, although the manager was full of praise for his teenage troops after the game.
Longwell said: “We really didn’t deserve to lose 3-0 because the boys were brilliant and their attitude was first class.
“We conceded a free-kick which Rangers scored from and, in the second half, a mistake by us was punished by one of their forwards.
“Rangers scored the third when we were chasing the game but I can’t fault the players for their effort.
“If the boys give me that effort every week, then I’ll be delighted.”
St Mirren’s under-19s will now dust themselves down for this Sunday’s Youth Cup second round clash with Montrose at Love Street, which kicks-off at 2pm.
