Saints Under-20s must kick their heels

David Longwell’s St Mirren young guns have been left kicking their heels after today’s scheduled Clydesdale Bank Under-20s League fixture away to Ross County was called off.

The game was due to be staged at the Highland Football Academy and kick-off time was scheduled for1.30pm.

However, the playing surface in Dingwall was frozen and the decision to cancel the fixture was made last night.

It is especially disappointing to head of youth development Longwell as his Saints starlets are on a great run of form.

They have posted league wins in their last four outings against Dundee, Celtic, Kilmarnock and St Johnstone.

Those results have hoisted the young Buddies into fourth spot.

Longwell said: “It’s disappointing the game is off because we were quite keen to get the match played.

“The winter break came at the wrong time for us because we were on a good run of form were keen to keep that momentum going.”
