Buddies boss Danny Lennon was yesterday continuing his search for new signings ... but Express Sports understands speculation linking Carlisle United defender Peter Murphy with a move to St Mirren is wide of the mark.
Murphy, who has played at international level with the Republic of Ireland, featured against Saints during his team’s 1-0 pre-season win at Brunton Park in July last year.
And Lennon has been linked with a move for the 32-year-old Dubliner in the January transfer window.
However, Express Sports has been told that Murphy, who has clocked up more than 400 appearances for the League One club, is not on Lennon’s radar.
It’s also understood that Carlisle would be looking for a transfer fee for the experienced Irishman as he is under contract at Brunton Park until this summer.
Lennon has already bolstered his squad this month by securing Conor Newton on a loan deal from Newcastle United.
He is also hoping the Magpies will agree to allow left-back Paul Dummett to return to Saints for the rest of the season after enjoying a successsful loan spell in Paisley during the first part of the 2012/13 campaign.
