St Mirren striker Steven Thompson is at the centre of an injury scare ahead of Saturday’s Scottish Cup clash with Brechin City.
The former Rangers and Scotland hitman suffered a bang to his hip during Tuesday night’s 0-0 SPL draw with Ross County at the Global Energy Stadium.
Thompson’s night ended prematurely as he was replaced by Sam Parkin at half-time.
However, Buddies boss Danny Lennon is optimistic that ‘Thommo’ – who was the Paisley club’s top scorer last season and so far has seven goals to his name in the 2012/13 campaign – can recover in time to take his place in the squad for the visit of Brechin.
Lennon said: “Thommo took a bang on his hip and, the way things are at the minute, we had to make a change as we need everyone as fresh as possible.
“He was in some discomfort on the way down the road after the Ross County game but he was feeling a lot better the next day.
“I’m hoping big Stevie will be okay for this weekend’s cup tie.
“The good thing is we have quality to come off the bench when things like that occur.”
