Saints skipper Jim Goodwin admits hell miss playmaker Paul McGowans on-field magic...but not his dressing room tantrums.
Goodwin has revealed that grumpy Gowser and his constant groans drive him crazy.
However, he also knows the former Celtic starlet has the ability to torment opposition defences.
McGowan, 24, is set to miss the next three months of action after he had to go under the surgeons knife to fix a troublesome shoulder injury.
It means Goodwins ears will get a rest while Gowser recuperates ... but so too will St Mirrens SPL rivals.
There is no doubt we will miss Paul on Saturdays as he is a quality player, said Goodwin. However, I wont miss him through the week as he is the moaniest little guy in the world!
He will moan about absolutely anything. Ive never seen a guy who wants to argue with folk so much.
I would love to stick a camera in the physios room and see what he and Gerry Docherty get up to for the next few months. That would be a Big Brother episode everyone would love to see!
Both Paul and Gerry are short-tempered individuals and I wouldnt like to guess whod come out on top.
Goodwin admits he will suffer from McGowans absence more than most of his team-mates.
He added: Gowser has been terrific for this team. Since I came to the club, he has been our main man.
Im sure none of the other boys will mind me saying that he is key to what we do here.
From my own point of view, hes great as he always wants the ball. I just want to break things up and then give the ball to guys like Paul and Kenny McLean to go and create.
Although the loss of McGowan causes a headache for Buddies boss Danny Lennon, it also creates an opportunity for someone else to come in and show what they can do.
Goodwin said: Graham Carey has come inside a bit since Paul went out of the team and hes done well.
Weve also got Kenny in midfield and Jon Robertson is chomping at the bit, waiting for his chance, so we are well covered in that area.
Goodwin added: I know other players who might just have said they werent risking it but the wee man doesnt want to miss a single minute of training. However, its better that he gets it fixed now and that we get him back for the important games in the run-in.
