Saints backroom staff double up in pre-season

BUDDIES boss Danny Lennon has revealed how the backroom staff are having to play a bigger role in St Mirren’s pre-season preparations.

It had been feared that the departure of sports scientist Craig McGinlay at the end of last season would mean Saints would be hampered in terms of dietary advice and fitness testing.

However, Express Sports can reveal that the backroom staff are earning their crust as they double up to take more active roles in whipping the players into shape.

Lennon said: “We have been marshalling it ourselves. There’s our physio Gerry Docherty, there’s myself and there’s Tommy Craig and Paul Mathers and we’ve all been in the game long enough to know what is beneficial to the players and what isn’t.

“All the drills and everything else we are doing have been planned very carefully.”

Lennon admits it is now up to his players to buy into the new set-up and give it their best shot in each and every training session.

He added: “We won’t accept anything less from them.”
