ST Mirren Youth Football Club’s Under-9 team has netted a winner thanks to a financial boost of a sportsmatch grant from sportscotland.
And the injection of cash will be used to further develop the club’s squad throughout their 2009/10 campaign.
It’s hoped that the team, which is sponsored by the Watermill Hotel in Paisley, will go from strength to strength in the forthcoming campaign.
Michael Lavizani, owner of The Watermill, said: “I am very proud to give our support to local initiatives like St Mirren Youth Football Club.
“I’m a huge fan of football, so when the opportunity came along to help out I was more than happy to do so.
Under-9 coach Stephen Heron said: “The money will be used to increase the amount of coaching and training equipment at the club and hopefully involve greater numbers of youngsters participating in football. We are very grateful to both sponsors.”
Louise Martin CBE, of sportscotland, said: “St Mirren Youth Football Club is one of more than 1,600 sports groups throughout Scotland to have benefited from over £4.4 million of sportsmatch investment in grass roots sport. Our thanks go to The Watermill Hotel.
“This is a great example of how businesses working in partnership with sporting organisations and sportsmatch can make a significant contribution to community sport, enhancing the lives of many young people in Scotland.”
St Mirren Youth Football Club is looking for young Buddies born in 2001 to strengthen their current squad.
Ideally they would like to recruit players with previous football club experience although all kids would be welcome.
The team trains locally and plays in the East Renfrewshire Soccer Sevens on a Saturday morning.
All St Mirren Youth Football Club U9s coaches are SYFA qualified and Disclosure Scotland checked.
So if your child was born in 2001 and is interested in coming along to training, please contact Stephen Heron on 07914 678272 or you can check the website at www.stmirrenyfc.co.uk
