Saints linked with striker Winters

ST MIRREN are reportedly set to battle Kilmarnock to sign striker Robbie Winters when the transfer window re-opens next month.

The 34-year-old hitman is available on a free transfer after his contract with Norwegian side Brann Bergen expired.

The former Dundee United and Aberdeen star is said to be keen to return to Scotland after six years in Norway.

However, Love Street chief Gus MacPherson may face a battle to persuade the striker to come to Paisley.

Killie boss Jim Jefferies is desperately seeking re-inforcements in attack.

But with Craig Dargo and Billy Mehmet sidelined through injury MacPherson may well see Winters as the man to step in and fill their boots.
