Vics move four points clear

VICTORIA have extended their lead at the top of the Paisley and District Indoor Bowling Association First Division.

The Buddies moved four points away from nearest rivals Woodlands after they routed JG Fleming 8-0 during the latest round of games in the campaign.

Woodlands, though, kept up their winning streak by posting a 6-2 win over Blacklandmill, although it’s still not good enough to prevent the table-toppers from edging even further in front.

Meikleriggs had a torrid time of it, losing to Shanks 6-2, which means they drop down to fifth in the table.

And struggling Renfrew suffered another blow to their confidence after they lost 6-2 to Inchinnan, a result that moved the latter into third spot.

In Division Two, Anchor are coasting along nicely as they keep riding high.

This time they underlined their reputation as serious title contenders with a resounding 8-0 demolition job over Barrhead, while Johnstone kept in touch with a good 6-2 win over Spateston.

Caledonia are by no means out of the running and they maintained their impressive form with an 8-0 thrashing of basement team Crofthead.

Also impressive were Elderslie Wallace, who posted an important 6-2 win over Nitshill to keep themselves in the top half of the table but Charleston were sent crashing once again when they lost to Linwood 6-2.

In Division Three Eaglesham’s lead at the top has been wiped out – even though they continue to win.

The table-toppers beat Crookston 6-2 but Ferguslie go level on points with them following their crucial 7-1 win against Bridge of Weir.

Abercorn are on the up thanks to their hearty 6-2 win at the expense of Lilybank but Paisley Comrades slipped down a place after being the idle team in the division.

In Reserve League One Renfrew are motoring along without any problems whatsoever.

Their latest victory came at the expense of Neilston, 4-2, and it’s good enough to maintain a five-point lead at the top.

Neilston’s loss to Renfrew proved very costly, though, as they fall from second in the table to fourth.

Inchinnan A were happy campers when they put Wellmeadow to the sword 6-0, and so too were St Mirren, who pounded Shanks 5-1.

Charleston, meanwhile, still rule the roost at the top of Reserve League Two.

Their latest victory was a good 4-2 result against Victoria but Ferguslie still hang on to their coat tails thanks to a 5-1 win over Inchinnan B.

Barrhead hauled themselves up to mid-table respectability with a morale-boosting 6-0 win over Inkerman and Meikleriggs and Elderslie Wallace fought out a 3-3 draw.
