Barron may face three months on sidelines

SAINTS right-back David Barron is facing a prolonged period on the sidelines after being told he won’t be ready to step up his fitness bid for another fortnight.

The 21-year-old defender suffered medial ligament damage in his left knee during a closed doors friendly win over Partick Thistle in September and was initially ruled out of action for up to six weeks.

Barron tried to resume training last month but he felt some discomfort and is still playing the waiting game before stepping up his rehab.

It means his long lay-off could stretch to a total of three months.

Buddies boss Gus MacPherson said: “David might be able to train soon enough.

“But, in terms of playing games, he’s another two weeks away.”

Barron has yet to feature for the Saints first team this season.

Also currently sidelined are Spanish midfielder Tonet (hamstring) and Stephen O’Donnell and Tom Brighton (both knee injuries).
