Swim team's medals haul

MEMBERS of REN 96 Swim Team were back making a splash when they travelled to the North Ayrshire Distance Meet.

Head coach Sandy Blackwood’s side left the opposition in their wake as they dominated the podium once again, winning seven gold medals, 13 silvers and seven bronze.

Among the many highlights was the performance of Ian Porteous, who swam to three gold medals, his victories coming in the Male 17 Years and Over 200m Breaststroke, 200m Freestyle and the 400m Individual Medley Open Age group event.

In fact, Ian’s time of 1min 55.65secs in the 200m Freestyle set a new West District Record.

Ian rounded off his afternoon with a good silver medal in the Male 400m Freestyle Open event with a time of 4mins 8.94secs.

David Morgan was a winner too, claiming gold medals in the Male 14 Year 200m Individual Medley and 200m Fly, while David Orr was a double winner in the Male 11 Years 200m Individual Medley and 200m Backstroke.

David Orr followed up his victories with two silver medals in the Male 11 Years 200m Fly and 200m Freestyle, while David Morgan won three silvers in the Male 800m Freestyle Open, 200m Freestyle and 200m Backstroke.

Renfrew-based David Morgan, who attends the Glasgow School of Sport, also won two bronze medals in the Male 14 Years 200m Breaststroke and 400m Individual Medley Open.

Hazel McBride swam to two silver medals in the Female 15 to 16 Years 200m Individual Medley and 200m Freestyle and Jack McCusker picked up a silver for second place in the Male 13 Years 200m Fly.
