Athletes honoured by awards

KILBARCHAN Athletic Club members were rewarded for their efforts over the season during the club’s 34th annual awards ceremony at the David Lloyd Club in Renfrew.

A whole host of awards and accolades were handed out on the night, which also doubled up as the club’s annual general meeting.

The Challenge Cup club cross country champion this season was James Snodgrass, while David McDougall won the Memorial Shield.

Kilbarchan’s top club runner in the National Cross Country Championships was the veteran runner Robert Quinn, from Paisley.

And the Provost Cowper Trophy, winter merit award winner was Conor McNulty.

Donald Petrie picked up the Club Hill Race Trophy and the Mens Track Championship Shield went to Craig Stewart.

The Donald Stewart Memorial Trophy, club 100m winner was David Watson and for the Ladies, the Track Championship Rosebowl was won by Holly Belch.

Holly actually made it a trophy double on the night as she also collected the Ladies Salver for being the club 100m champion.

There were other awards, too, including the Buddies Trophy for the best club field event performance and that particular honour went to Andrew Cunningham.

Callum Hawkins walked away with the Lilias Trophy, for athletic endeavour after he enjoyed a marvellous year and in the ladies category, the Cath Geddes Trophy, for athletic endeavour, went to Judith McNicol.

And the Iain Cosgrove Quaich, for outstanding young sprinter/hurdler was won by Martin Lipton.

On hand to present the prizes was Margaret Ann McLachlan, who is one of the country’s leading track officials.

At the club’s AGM, Jason Pender, submitted his Secretary’s report, highlighting the various successes of the club, covering all aspects of athletic activities.

Treasurer Jim Goudie presented his report which indicated the club to be in a sound financial position.

President Jim Green thanked all committee members for their contributions to the continued success of the club and indicated his retirement from the office.

Dr Laurence Stewart was elected Honorary President and Robert Hawkins is the new President with Jim Ogilvie as Vice President and Jim Green filling the role of Immediate Past President.

John Kynaston takes over from Jason Pender as Secretary with Max McFarlane continuing as Minute Secretary and Jim Goudie continues as Treasurer.
