FORMER Paisley Daily Express psychic Derek Ogilvie is now a smash hit in Holland – and is also set to become big in Japan.
Derek, who hails from the Foxbar area of Paisley, has been a surprise success on the Continent, with TV bosses in the Netherlands fighting to get him on their shows.
And, with language being no barrier for a psychic, he is also set to test his skills in the Far East at the invitation of Japanese telly executives.
The rise to stardom abroad comes as Derek’s status back home is higher than ever, with his eagerly anticipated debut show at Paisley Town Hall last week a complete sell-out.
Derek said: “Things are going great. My TV series The Baby Mind Reader is now on in Holland and it has been a surprise success there.
“The second show got 800,000 viewers, which is a fantastic figure for a foreign imported TV series.
“I’m going back to Holland in the next few weeks to do some talk shows as I’m creating a bit of a stir over there. The two main chat shows are fighting over me.
“My book is also selling well there and I’m doing a short tour of Holland next month.
“Language is not a barrier when I connect with children telepathically, which means I can communicate with children all over the world.
“I’ve been asked to go to Japan next month too, so there are a lot of possibilities for me just now which are very exciting.”
Derek has come a long way since he first walked through the doors of the Express at the invitation of former editor Norman Macdonald.
He gave the fellow Buddie the chance to write his own column and answer questions from Express readers desperate to communicate with loved ones who had died.
The popular column went on to be featured in many of our sister papers all over the country.
Derek had to give up the column when he was offered a lucrative deal with Channel Five two years ago.
But he hasn’t forgotten his roots and has described performing his sell-out show at Paisley Town Hall as “a dream come true”.
He said: “It’s fantastic that the Town Hall show sold out and I’d like to thank everyone for their support.”
Derek is now busy planning a British tour for next spring and is working on new ideas for the next TV series of The Baby Mind Reader.
His book which accompanied the first series is still selling well and his second book, The Psychic World Of The Baby Mind Reader, will be in the shops in January.
